Medicare is a US federal health insurance program for:
People who are 65 or older
Younger people with certain disabilities
People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD)
There are several parts to Medicare depending on what your needs are. Many of which are funded by the Government, and some you might need to pay for (often called Medigap)
Most people are automatically eligible to enroll 3 months before you turn 65.

What Does Medicare Cover?
Medicare has lots of information regarding coverage and can be difficult to understand - essentially it comes into four main parts:
Part A: Hospital Insurance
Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.
So basically this is cover for when you have to go to hospital.
You don’t need to pay premiums for this providing your paid into Social Security pool for at least 10 years.
Part B: Medical Insurance
Part B covers certain doctors' services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.
This is visits to the doctor or other specialist appointments.
For Part B you need to make monthly premium payments.
Part D: Prescription Drug Coverage
Part D adds prescription drug coverage and is a separate policy you need to buy from a private insurance company.
Part C: Medicare Advantage
Also known as Part C: is an “all in one” alternative. It is a private plan approved by the Center for Medicare Services. This cost saving option offers “bundled” plans including prescription drug, vision, dental, hearing, and other benefits.
